The third king of the Targaryen dynasty. Second son of Aegon the Conqueror by his sister-wife Visenya, Maegor seized the Iron Throne in 42 AC from his nephew Aenys I’s line and reigned until 48 AC, riding Balerion the Black Dread into every battle. His brutal suppression of the Faith Militant Uprising and his six marriages earned him the epithet the Cruel. He was born at Dragonstone and died on the Iron Throne under circumstances that remain contested; his nephew Jaehaerys I succeeded him.
