The seat of the kings of the Seven Kingdoms, forged at Aegon the Conqueror’s command from the blades surrendered by his defeated enemies and melted in the fire of Balerion. It is a deliberately hostile chair — barbed, asymmetric, and by Aegon’s own reasoning unfit for comfort, on the principle that a king should never sit easy. How many swords went into it is contested: Aegon claimed a thousand, and later accounts that trouble to count arrive at rather fewer.

House Targaryen ruled from it for nearly three centuries. Maegor the Cruel seized it in 42 AC and was found dead upon it in 48 AC, in circumstances the sources do not agree on. By tradition the heir apparent to the throne holds Dragonstone as their seat.
