A religious rebellion by the militant orders of the Faith of the Seven — the Warrior’s Sons and the Poor Fellows — against House Targaryen rule. Sparked by the Faith’s rejection of Targaryen incestuous marriages and polygamy, the uprising began in the final years of Aenys I and escalated sharply under Maegor the Cruel, who rode Balerion against Faith armies in engagements including the battle at the Great Fork of the Blackwater. It was ended in the early reign of Jaehaerys I, who negotiated the disarmament of the militant orders in exchange for the Crown’s guarantee of the Faith’s freedom of worship.
